PetroVR 2023 Release Notes

PetroVR 2023 expands the possibilities to share and analyze your results: the JSON export option enables sending them to Power BI and other data visualization tools; also, a new Express Export to Dataflow option makes publishing PetroVR projects to our corporate business planning application easier than ever.

This version includes also real-time visualization of convergence during Monte Carlo runs, an enhanced Probabilistic Result Window, and updated capabilities on modeling Carbon Capture and Storage cases.

PetroVR 2023 New Capabilities

Data Analysis tools

New JSON Report & Power BI templates: The new Export Data to JSON, exports all simulation data (not only results) to this popular open standard interchange format. The resulting JSON file can be read from any data visualization tool, where you can customize them in any form fitting your needs.

Together with this option, a Power Bi template is included to be used both as a documentation on how to map and create tables from the JSON file, and as a default Data visualization template for your PetroVR models.

This new option is available from the Tools menu, and it is enabled if you have run the simulation in the current session.

The template includes 15 pages capturing all the relevant data you usually get in PetroVR Excel Reports and Result files.

New Scenario Reports: The Well Production Rates Excel report is now available also in Scenarios. In this tool, the report creates a separate sheet for each scenario and prints all well rates in them.

Probabilistic Analysis Tools

Realtime Convergence display in Monte Carlo: The automatic detection of convergence during a probabilistic run is complemented in this version by a real-time visualization of that convergence, on a redesigned Execution tab. From this tab, users can monitor all details of a of a Monte Carlo run: logs, progress, CPU core utilization, and convergence.

Monte Carlo Result Window redesign: Now you can easily access all graphs of a Probabilistic indicator from the main Result Window: histograms, cumulative and reverse distributions, density, convergence, and clusters.

Integration with other Quorum Products

New Dataflow express export option: A new Dataflow export tool is now available, for project level-only publishing, with a compact set of options, saving you the need to go through the different pages of the traditional Dataflow Wizard. This new tool lets you select the variables to be included through a user-friendly interface, instead of having to manually editing an external mapping file.

PetroVR 64 bit

Starting from this release, PetroVR will be provided only as a 64-bit software. This architecture enables allocating more memory to PetroVR processes, and therefore the new PetroVR can handle much larger projects, with thousands of wells or large time spans.

Modeling Flexibility - Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage

Viscosity Units and new results: PetroVR’s Unit System has been updated with the addition of Viscosity units. This is especially useful for CCS projects since reservoir CO2 Viscosity is a critical factor in evaluating the storage mass and efficiency.

The units included are Poise, Centipoise (default) and Pascal-second.

Enhancements and Tests Included in this Version

  • 49 enhancements delivered as updates during 2022
  • 135 new functional test cases
